New SEAI Grants October 2026: What’s Changed for Solar and Batteries

Business solar grant doubled to a €325,200 maximum, home solar grant open to houses built and occupied before 2025, a new €600 battery grant and more. What the October 2026 SEAI changes mean for you.

New SEAI Grants October 2026: What’s Changed for Solar and Batteries

On 29 September 2026 the Government announced a package of enhanced SEAI grants for households and businesses. Most of it opens on 6 October 2026; the doubled business solar grant opens for applications at 8am on 7 October 2026. Some of it is the biggest change to solar grants in years, especially for businesses and farms. Here is what changed for solar PV and batteries, who it helps, and what to do next.

This package is separate from Budget 2027. The Government has said further measures will be considered in the Budget, and we’ll update this post if anything changes for solar.

For businesses and farms: the solar grant doubles

Update, 6 October 2026: SEAI has published the details. The Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (NDMG) table has doubled, raising the maximum from €162,600 to €325,200, for new applications made from 8am on 7 October 2026 to 6 July 2027. Existing offers are not increased. It is open to businesses, the agricultural sector, public bodies, schools, community centres and non-profits, for systems up to 1,000 kWp. SEAI estimates the average business installing solar will save around €12,000 a year.

To put that in numbers: a 100 kWp system’s grant goes from €22,600 under the old table to €45,200, and a 20 kWp system’s from €6,600 to €13,200.

273 daysleft to apply for the doubled SEAI grant — applications close 6 July 2027Get in touch today

The catch is time. Works can’t start until SEAI issues a letter of offer. Our advice: get in touch today, and don’t delay. The doubled grant is only for applications made by 6 July 2027. We expect a rush of late applications before the deadline, and every one of those systems will need ESB Networks permission to connect, which can take months. SEAI grant offers are valid for eight months, so we expect offers made before the deadline to stay valid for up to eight months after it — but to avoid disappointment and guarantee a quality, supported installation with the doubled grant, get your application in well before July. An especially strong offer for farmers

Farms qualify for the doubled NDMG on the same terms as businesses. Dairy, pig, poultry and tillage farms use most of their electricity in daylight hours, which is exactly when solar generates, so the savings come quickly. We’ve installed solar for over 200 Irish farmers. The doubled NDMG is now a strong alternative to TAMS 3, and we prepare applications for both. See our farm solar page.

For homes: more houses qualify for the solar grant

Until now, the domestic solar PV grant was only available for homes built and occupied before 2021. SEAI is extending eligibility to houses built and occupied before 2025. If your home was built between 2021 and 2024, you may now qualify for the same solar grant as everyone else, up to €1,800.

A new €600 home battery grant

For the first time there is a grant for home battery storage: €600. SEAI estimates savings of up to €878 a year where a battery sits alongside a 4 kWp solar system. A battery lets you use your own solar power in the evening instead of exporting it cheaply and buying it back at night. If you already have solar, ask us whether adding a battery makes sense for your home.

Bigger grants for households on certain social welfare payments

Homeowners getting certain Department of Social Protection payments can get grants of up to €9,000 for a 4 kWp solar PV system with a 5 kWh battery. The qualifying payments include:

  • Fuel Allowance
  • Working Family Payment
  • One-Parent Family Payment
  • Domiciliary Care Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance, if you live with the person you care for
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance or Disability Allowance for over six months with a child under seven

Homes in HAP, RAS and RASP tenancies get more generous insulation grants, and there is a pilot of solar and battery grants for homes in the Dublin RAS scheme.

Fully funded solar under Warmer Homes

Solar PV and battery storage will be offered as standard under the fully funded Warmer Homes Scheme. The Solar PV for the Medically Vulnerable scheme expands to 4 kWp systems with 5 kWh batteries. You apply for both directly to SEAI, and SEAI arranges the works.

Boiler scrappage: €2,000

A new €2,000 scrappage payment is available when you replace a fossil fuel boiler with a heat pump in a house built before 2021. It applies straight away for eligible applicants, and homeowners with a heat pump application already in progress get it automatically. Our sister company RVR Energy Technology manufactures heat pumps, including the Quantix S heat pump range.

What’s still to be confirmed

SEAI says the measures open from 6 October “subject to final implementation arrangements”, with full terms and eligibility details to follow. The main things to watch:

  • Confirmed 6 October: the business grant is doubled for applications from 7 October 2026 to 6 July 2027. See our doubled-grant guide.
  • how the €9,000 social welfare grant is applied for

We’ll update this post as SEAI publishes the details.
