SEAI has doubled the Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (NDMG). For new applications made from 8am on 7 October 2026 to 6 July 2027, every band of the grant table is twice what it was, and the maximum grant rises from €162,600 to €325,200. After 6 July 2027 the doubled grant is gone.

What has changed with the NDMG

On 29 September 2026 the Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment announced a package of enhanced SEAI grants. For businesses, the big change is the solar grant: SEAI has doubled the NDMG grant table for applications made from 7 October 2026 to 6 July 2027. Heat pumps and solar thermal under the Business Energy Upgrades Scheme get enhanced grants too.

SEAI estimates the average business installing solar under the enhanced scheme will save around €12,000 a year on energy.

The doubled grant table

System sizeOld grantDoubled grant
1 kWp€900€1,800
2 kWp€1,800€3,600
3 kWp€2,100€4,200
4–6 kWp€2,400€4,800
7–20 kWp+ €300 per kWp+ €600 per kWp (€13,200 at 20 kWp)
21–200 kWp+ €200 per kWp+ €400 per kWp (€45,200 at 100 kWp, €85,200 at 200 kWp)
201–1,000 kWp+ €150 per kWp+ €300 per kWp (€325,200 at 1,000 kWp)
New applications only. SEAI says existing applications won’t be increased, because State aid rules don’t allow grandfathering. If you’ve already started works on an existing offer, you can’t seek a higher amount.

What the doubled grant means for your business

Take a 100 kWp system, which would generate about 85,000 kWh of electricity a year. Under the old table its grant was €22,600. Under the doubled table it is €45,200. On a 200 kWp system the grant goes from €42,600 to €85,200.

Grant and return calculator

Enter your annual electricity use from your bills, or a system size. We’ll estimate the cost, the doubled grant, your savings and your return.

Every business is different. For this estimate we suggest a system that generates about 60% of your annual electricity use, at an indicative €850 per kWp and 850 kWh per kWp per year, with exported power valued at €0.15/kWh. It doesn’t include the Accelerated Capital Allowance, which improves the return further, or future electricity price changes. The 25-year figure allows for panels losing about 0.5% of output a year. The calculator starts at 10 kWp. Your proposal will use the official SEAI rates, a price for your site, and your actual usage.

The solar equipment also qualifies for the Accelerated Capital Allowance, so you can write off the full cost against corporation tax in year one. Our commercial projects were already paying back in 3–4 years before this change. With the grant doubled, that gets shorter still.

What the grant has paid on our commercial projects

These are recent commercial solar panel installations by our own crews. Each was paid the grant under the old table, so the same systems would now get about twice as much.

Find a project near you: Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

How big a system do you need?

Every business is different, but as a rule of thumb:

  • Size it to what you use in daylight. Solar pays back fastest on power you use yourself.
  • 1 kWp makes about 850 kWh a year. Our calculator starts at 60% of your annual use.
  • Allow 4–5 m² of roof per kWp.

We’ll size it properly from your bills on a free site survey. Send us a recent bill.

For farmers

Farms get the same doubled grant. Dairy, pig and poultry farms use most of their power in daylight, so solar pays back quickly. We’ve installed solar for over 200 Irish farmers, and we prepare TAMS 3 applications too, so we’ll tell you which grant suits your farm best.

Who can apply

SEAI lists the following as eligible for the NDMG:

  • Businesses, including hotels, nursing homes, retail, factories, warehouses and offices
  • Farms and the agricultural sector
  • Public sector bodies and schools
  • Community centres, sports clubs and non-profit organisations

Systems up to 1,000 kWp are covered; a larger system can claim the €325,200 maximum on its first 1,000 kWp. The building must have been built and occupied before 2025. You must use an SEAI-registered Non-Domestic Microgen company, and ProSolar is one. If you receive more than €10,000 in State grants in a calendar year you’ll need a Tax Clearance Certificate.

Why you shouldn’t wait until July

The grant has a fixed order of steps, and some of them take weeks:

  1. Site survey and proposal. We size the system to your real daytime load, not to the grant.
  2. Contract, then SEAI application. SEAI requires a signed contract with a registered company before you apply. We prepare the application.
  3. Letter of offer. Works cannot start until SEAI issues it. Offers are valid for eight months.
  4. ESB Networks application. This must be approved before installation. SEAI quotes a minimum of 4 weeks, but for substantial systems expect up to 4 months or more.
  5. Installation by our own crews, then we upload the completion paperwork, usually within days.
  6. Grant paid. SEAI pays 4–6 weeks after it has all the documentation.
Our advice: get in touch today, and don’t delay. The doubled grant is only for applications made by 6 July 2027. We expect a rush of late applications before the deadline, and every one of those systems will need ESB Networks permission to connect, which can take months. SEAI grant offers are valid for eight months, so we expect offers made before the deadline to stay valid for up to eight months after it — but to avoid disappointment and guarantee a quality, supported installation with the doubled grant, get your application in well before July.

SEAI has also reported unprecedented demand this year, with applications to some of its programmes up over 200%. A grant that doubles will bring a rush, and the closer it gets to July the longer the queues will be, at SEAI and at ESB Networks. Businesses that get their survey, contract and application in early will be first in line.

Why ProSolar

Solar is new. We’re not. ProSolar is part of a 40-year-old Irish family business that has been delivering energy solutions in Ireland since long before solar panels were on Irish roofs. When the grant window closes, we’ll still be here to look after your system.

  • In-house engineers design every system. Our own crews install it, with no subcontracted installs.
  • 1,500+ solar installations across homes, farms and businesses, and over 100 commercial customers, including Casey’s Furniture, Fota Island Wildlife Park, Swords County Hall in Dublin, Kilkee Waterworld and the Mercy Hospital in Cork.
  • We handle the SEAI application and the ESB Networks application for you.
  • Every proposal sets out the grant, the capital allowance and the payback in writing.

Frequently asked questions

When does the doubled grant start?

Applications for the doubled grant open at 8am on Wednesday 7 October 2026.

How long will the doubled grant last?

Applications must be made by 6 July 2027. SEAI grant offers are valid for eight months, so we expect offers made before the deadline to stay valid for up to eight months after it. But we expect a rush of late applications, all needing ESB Networks permission to connect, so get in touch today and apply well before July.

Is there still a maximum grant?

Yes. The maximum is now €325,200, at 1,000 kWp (it was €162,600). Larger systems can claim the maximum on their first 1,000 kWp.

I already have an SEAI letter of offer. Do I get the doubled grant?

No. SEAI says existing applications will not be increased, because State aid rules don’t allow grandfathering. If you have already started works, you did so on your existing offer and can’t seek a higher amount. The doubled grant is only for new applications made from 7 October 2026. If you haven’t started yet, talk to us before you do anything.

Can farms get the doubled NDMG?

Yes. The agricultural sector is eligible for the NDMG. Farms can also look at TAMS 3, and we prepare both. See our farm solar grants guide.

Can I start the installation before I get the letter of offer?

No. SEAI is clear that works must not start before you receive your letter of offer. Starting early can cost you the grant.
