The Irish government is powering up change with SEAI Solar Grants in a bid to encourage homeowners and businesses to switch to solar energy. The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) is leading the charge, offering grants to help cover the installation costs of solar panels on both homes and businesses.
The SEAI Solar Grant is a great way for homeowners and business owners to make the switch to renewable energy and reduce their carbon footprint, while also receiving financial support to help cover the cost of installation.
The amount of the grant depends on the size of the solar panel system being installed. The grant is calculated based on the number of kilowatts of peak output that the solar panel system is expected to produce. For example, a 2 kW system may be eligible for a grant of €1,200, while a 4 kW system may be eligible for a grant of €2,400.
To be eligible for the grant your home must have been built and occupied before 31st December 2020 and there must be no previous funding for Solar PV at your MPRN (the MPRN is Your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) a unique 11 digit number assigned to your electricity connection and meter).
To apply for the SEAI Solar Grant, homeowners and business owners must first have their solar panel system installed by a registered solar panel installer. Once the system is installed, the installer will provide a declaration of conformity to the SEAI. The homeowner or business owner can then apply for the grant through the SEAI’s online system, providing proof of payment for the installation and the declaration of conformity. They sure do! SEAI registration is a crucial step for companies to provide top-notch service and ensure best practices. While SEAI does not approve, guarantee, or warranty a company or its work, it is important to engage with a registered company to receive SEAI grant support. Please make sure to confirm the registration of the company you are considering for your solar PV installation by checking the SEAI Registered Companies list. Be cautious of those who offer solar PV services without SEAI registration, as these installations do not qualify for grant support.

In addition to the SEAI grant the government have also announced in the 2024 budget, that the 0% VAT saving will continue for solar panel installations. “The supply of solar panels is subject to the standard rate of Value-Added Tax (VAT). However, the zero rate or reduced rate may apply when solar panels are supplied and installed as part of a supply and install contract.” (1) This means you’ll get a better deal on your solar panels with the supply and installation from a quality company like Prosolar.
Solar panels generate renewable electricity, which helps the environment and reduces your electricity bills. With the potential savings of up to €4,000 on the investment of a solar PV system, now is a great time to invest in your home and/or business with solar.
