Independent Audit
Independent Solar Panel Inspection & Audit
For businesses, industry and farms who want to know whether their solar system is safe, compliant and performing as sold — whoever installed it

Not sure your solar installation was done right? Maybe it produces far less than you were promised, the inverter keeps faulting, you never received test results, or the company that fitted it has stopped answering the phone. ProSolar carries out independent, evidence-based solar panel inspections and audits — a full check, test and written report on commercial, industrial and agricultural systems installed by any company.
Why this service exists
Many system owners contact SEAI asking for their installation to be “audited”. SEAI inspects a sample of grant-funded installations as part of its quality assurance of registered companies, but it does not offer inspections on request to individual owners. Safe Electric deals with electrical safety complaints about registered contractors, but it does not assess whether a system performs as sold or whether the workmanship on your roof is sound.
That leaves owners with nowhere to go for an independent answer. We think that’s a gap worth filling properly.
Why ProSolar is well placed to audit your system
Auditing a solar installation properly takes more than an electrician with a meter. It takes people who design and build these systems every week, who understand how they should perform, and who have the tools to prove what is actually happening on your roof.
Engineer-led
ProSolar is engineer-led. Every system we design starts with the engineering — structural, electrical and performance — and every audit is carried out the same way: measured, evidenced and explained.
We teach the standard
We deliver Engineers Ireland-registered CPD on solar PV to engineers across Ireland, because we care about the quality of solar design and installation in this country — not just on our own jobs.
1,500+ installations
Farms, hotels, factories, schools and multi-unit developments, on Sigenergy, Huawei, SAJ, Solis, Sofar and other platforms. We know how these systems are meant to be built — and the ways they fail.
Longevity
ProSolar is part of the RVR Energy Technology group, a family business with over 40 years in the Irish energy sector. We’ll be here to stand over our report.
Cutting-edge PV analysis
We model expected yield with physics-based simulation of your exact site, orientation and shading, then compare it with what your system actually produced. We read raw data directly from inverters and data loggers across brands, and log building demand with power-quality analysers — so we can tell a faulty system from an unrealistic promise.
Complex projects
Our commercial work includes a 276-panel system for Sun Life in Waterford (with a full glint-and-glare study near the airport), ESB Networks protection and witness testing, and battery storage for hotels. Your audit benefits from that depth.
Credentials
- SEAI-registered solar PV installer and Safe Electric certified
- Test equipment for string I-V curve tracing and insulation resistance testing to IEC 62446-1 — not just a look at the monitoring app
- IAA-registered drone operator for safe, detailed roof and array inspection
- Engineers Ireland-registered CPD provider on solar PV
Signs your system should be checked
- Generation well below what your quote or proposal predicted
- Repeated inverter faults, isolation errors or tripping
- No commissioning certificate, test results or as-built documentation handed over
- Discolouration, scorch marks or heat at isolators, connectors or the inverter
- Missing warning labels or no clear way to isolate the system in an emergency
- Roof leaks, slipped slates or loose fixings since the installation
- Your installer has ceased trading or won’t return to site
- You are buying a property, farm or business that already has solar PV
- Your insurer, lender or landlord has asked for evidence the system is safe
What we check
Safety
- DC and AC isolation, and emergency shutdown arrangements
- DC cable routing, protection and fire risk in the building
- Connectors — including mismatched or poorly crimped connectors, a common cause of faults
- RCD and surge protection, earthing and bonding
- Inverter and battery location, ventilation and clearances
Compliance
- Installation against I.S. 10101 (National Wiring Rules)
- Testing and documentation against IEC 62446-1
- ESB Networks notification or connection paperwork
- Labelling, schematics and handover documents
Performance
- String I-V curve tracing to find under-performing panels and strings
- Insulation resistance testing
- Actual yield compared with what your proposal predicted
- Shading, orientation and string design
- Inverter configuration, export settings and monitoring
Workmanship
- Mounting system, fixings and roof penetrations
- Ballast and wind-loading arrangements on flat roofs
- Drone survey of the array — no scaffolding needed to see the roof
- Cable management, containment and weather sealing
Independent means independent
We’re an installer ourselves, so we’re clear about how an audit works:
- The report is yours. You pay for the audit, and you decide who sees it.
- No sales push. We don’t use audits to sell you a new system.
- Any installer can do the remedial work — including the company that installed it. We’ll only quote for fixes if you ask us to.
- Findings are graded so you know what matters:
| Grade | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Safety-critical | A risk to people or property. Should be made safe immediately. |
| Defect | Not installed to standard, or costing you generation. Should be corrected. |
| Advisory | Not a fault, but worth improving or monitoring. |
Businesses, industry and farms
Commercial
Shops, hotels, offices and schools. We look at fire strategy, isolation for emergency services, protection settings and whether the system is delivering the savings your business case assumed.
Industrial
Larger rooftop and ground arrays, including flat-roof ballasted systems. Performance ratio analysis, string-level testing and a clear remedial list for your facilities team.
Agricultural
Farm sheds and yards bring their own risks — ammonia and corrosion in livestock buildings, cable damage from machinery and rodents, and older roof structures. We check for all of them.
What you get
- A written audit report with photographs and drone imagery
- Measured test results for each string, with the readings you’d expect alongside
- A graded list of findings — plain English, with the technical detail your installer needs
- A clear summary you can hand to your installer, insurer, solicitor or buyer
How it works
- Get in touch — tell us about the system, who installed it and what’s worrying you.
- Desk review — we look at your quote, proposal, paperwork and monitoring data before we visit, and give you a fixed quote for the audit.
- Site inspection — visual and electrical testing, drone survey of the array, and a review of the inverter and settings.
- Report — your written report with graded findings, followed by a call to walk you through it.
Frequently asked questions
Does SEAI inspect my solar system?
SEAI inspects a sample of grant-funded installations to check the standards of its registered companies. It does not inspect individual systems on request, and it does not act for the owner. An independent audit gives you your own evidence about your own system.
Will you tell me if my installer did a bad job?
We’ll tell you exactly what we find, graded by how serious it is, with measurements and photographs to back it up. The report is factual and evidence-based — it describes the installation, not the company.
Can I use the report in a dispute with my installer?
The report is yours to use as you see fit. Many owners share it with their original installer so defects can be put right. We recommend taking your own advice on any legal matter.
Do you audit systems you installed yourselves?
Our own customers are covered by our aftersales service — contact us directly and we’ll look after it. The audit service is for systems installed by any company.
Will you fix the problems you find?
Only if you ask us to. Any competent installer can carry out the remedial work, including the company that installed the system.
How much does an audit cost?
It depends on the size and type of the system. After the desk review we give you a fixed quote before anyone visits site.
Do you cover the whole country?
Yes. We audit commercial, industrial and agricultural systems nationwide.
