Solar Energy for Communities & Schools

Schools, community centres and public buildings across Ireland are embracing solar energy. With significant grant funding available and electricity costs rising, solar PV delivers immediate savings while demonstrating environmental leadership to the next generation.

Community Power

Community energy projects bring people together to reduce costs and carbon emissions collectively. Solar PV on shared buildings benefits everyone, lowering operating costs and reinvesting savings back into the community.

Sustainable Future

Every kilowatt-hour of solar energy produced displaces fossil fuel generation. Schools and community buildings become visible symbols of sustainability, inspiring the next generation to think green.

Work Together

ProSolar works with community groups, school boards and local authorities to deliver turnkey solar installations. We handle everything from grant applications to grid connections and ongoing support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about solar PV for schools, community buildings and available grant funding.

Grants & Funding
What grants are available for schools?

Schools can access funding through the SEAI Pathfinder Programme and the Community Energy Grant. These can cover a significant portion of installation costs.

What is the SEAI Community Energy Grant?

The SEAI Community Energy Grant supports community-scale energy projects including solar PV. It can cover up to 50% of capital costs for qualifying installations. Projects must be led by a Sustainable Energy Community (SEC).

How do we become a Sustainable Energy Community?

Any community group can register as an SEC with SEAI. You develop an Energy Master Plan with SEAI’s support, which identifies projects like solar PV. ProSolar can guide your group through this process and connect you with SEAI mentors.

Community Projects
What buildings are suitable for solar?

Schools, GAA clubs, community halls, parish centres, sports facilities and any publicly used building with a suitable roof can benefit from solar PV. We assess each building individually during our free site survey.

How long does a community installation take?

Once grant approval is received, installation typically takes 2-5 days depending on system size. The full process from initial enquiry to energisation – including grant applications – usually takes 3-6 months.

Can we use solar to teach students about renewable energy?

Absolutely. We can provide monitoring dashboards that display real-time energy generation data. Many schools integrate this into their science and geography curricula, making solar PV a hands-on educational resource.
