Prosolar is proud to announce the successful installation of a combined solar PV and battery storage system at Fota Wildlife Park’s new Education Conservation & Research Centre in December 2023. This innovative solution provides the centre with clean, sustainable energy while ensuring uninterrupted power for critical operations.

The system features a 68-panel solar PV array, strategically placed to capture maximum sunlight during the Education Centre’s operating hours. This generates clean electricity that directly powers the building, reducing reliance on the grid and lowering Fota Wildlife Park’s electricity costs.

The system’s key strength lies in the integration of a 40 kWh battery storage unit. This allows for the storage of excess solar energy generated during the day. This stored energy can then be used to power the centre during peak usage times or even at night, maximizing the use of renewable energy.

Smart Savings and Backup Power

The system’s intelligence extends beyond daytime use. It can also utilize off-peak night-time electricity rates for battery charging. This stored power can then be used during the day when electricity costs are typically higher, further reducing operational expenses for Fota Wildlife Park.

Perhaps the most crucial benefit of the battery storage system is its ability to provide backup power in case of grid outages. This ensures a continuous electrical supply to critical circuits within the Education Centre, safeguarding the well-being of the animals and the smooth operation of vital equipment.

Investing in a Sustainable Future: By choosing solar and battery storage, Fota Wildlife Park is demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. The system reduces the centre’s carbon footprint by generating clean energy and promotes a sustainable future for the park and its educational mission.
