• Park Place Apartments, High Street. 110 panels across the south, east and west roofs of an occupied town-centre apartment block, installed in July 2026 while residents stayed put. Two landlord supplies, each with its own Sigenergy hybrid inverter, so the common areas and lifts run on the roof during the day. Edge protection and scaffold access were built before a single panel went up.
• Castlerosse Hotel. Rooftop solar PV for one of Killarney’s best-known hotels, where laundry, kitchens and hot water run from early morning until late evening, which is when the panels are producing.
• Killarney businesses. Killarney DIY and the Killarney Innovation Centre are among the local businesses running on ProSolar systems, alongside the shops and guesthouses that make up much of our work in the town.

Three things make Killarney a strong town for solar. The hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs run laundry, kitchens, hot water and heat pumps through the day, so a commercial system here is used on site rather than exported, and the SEAI Non-Domestic grant scales with the size of the roof. The town’s housing estates are mostly simple pitched roofs facing south, east or west, which means a straightforward one-day install and a predictable yield. And the dairy townlands around the town carry milking and cooling loads every day of the year. Kerry’s weather is no barrier: panels produce from daylight, not sunshine, and our Killarney systems perform in line with the rest of the country.

Grants for Killarney homes, farms and businesses

A Killarney home qualifies for the SEAI solar grant of up to €1,800 in 2026, and solar equipment carries 0% VAT. Hotels, guesthouses, shops and farms can claim the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant, which has doubled, to a maximum of €325,200, for applications made by 6 July 2027 and has no ranking or waiting list (what the doubled grant means); farmers who qualify can apply for TAMS 3 at 60% instead. Common questions from Killarney

Will panels be a problem on a house in the town centre?

Rooftop solar on a house has been exempt from planning permission since 2022, and that applies in Killarney. Protected structures and buildings inside an Architectural Conservation Area are the exception, and Killarney’s town centre has some of each, so we check the status of your building at survey and advise before any design work is done. Where a front roof is sensitive, a rear or side roof usually carries the system with little loss of output.

How quickly can you survey a house in Killarney?

Quickly. Our base is close by and our crews are in the town most days, so a survey is usually arranged within the week. Most home installations then take a single day on site once the grant paperwork and ESB Networks connection are in place, both of which we handle.

Do hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs qualify for the business grant?

Yes. Any business with its own electricity connection can claim the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant, from a small B&B on a few kilowatts to a hotel roof with hundreds of panels. The grant is paid on system size, there is no ranking, and hospitality is one of the best fits we see because the load is there every day the panels produce.
